EPAG activists

1st July 2008, Kings Centre, Frampton Park Estate –

Hackney Council came to hold a ‘drop in’ and convince people that letting them sell off bits of the estate to build on is a good idea. About twenty people showed up to talk to hired “convincer” who had to admit that most people didn’t want the sell off.

It was hardly surprising that so few people were able to attend the ‘drop-in’ on Frampton Park Estate organised by Hackney Council to sell Estates Plus to the residents.  (It was called while people were either at work or feeding their kids.) Hardly surprising either that all of those who had not already signed the petition organised by the Estates Plus Action Group (EPAG), used this opportunity to do so.  Over the last two weeks residents and supporters – often independently of each other – have been petitioning their neighbours and putting up posters opposing Estates Plus.

EPAG activists have hardly  found anyone that supports the proposed development.  Hackney Council should be under no illusion that their plans have support on any council estate.  We do want development on our estates:  more green spaces, safe gardens and play areas; but not more flats in already overcrowded living spaces.
