Laburnum School Reunion Print E-mail

All former pupils and staff of Laburnum School, Haggerston are invited back for a reunion on Friday 27th September. The school will be open from 6-7pm where current pupils and teachers will be offering guided tours of the building and showing pupils work. There will then be a disco in the nearby Old King John's Head pub on Whiston Road.

One former pupil who will be attending is Tom Hollis, who still lives nearby on the St Mary's estate. "I have seen lots of changes in Hackney. And being a neighbourhood citizen, there is one thing I don't want to see happen is my dear old school Laburnum demolished. I started at the school in 1929 I am now an 82 year old OAP. The school is old but not too old to teach children the learning they need to get near at home."

Event organiser Peter Sutton said "This will be a great evening - where people can meet old friends, and just as importantly show their support for Laburnum School. Laburnum School has been part of this community since 1908 and we must not let the Council take it away from us."
